A Night to Remember: The First-Ever TARDISS Disability Ball

27th March 2025

On the evening of Saturday, December 14, 2024, Charters Towers witnessed a truly magical event—the first-ever TARDISS Disability Ball. By all accounts, it was an unforgettable night filled with joy, celebration, and a strong sense of community. The idea for the Disability Ball was born from the vision of our Charters Towers Service Delivery Manager, Renee, who dreamed of creating an inclusive event where participants could come together, dress up, and enjoy an evening dedicated entirely to them. With the support of TARDISS COO, Jodie, and the incredible generosity of the local community, that dream became a reality. As participants arrived at the venue, they were met with an extraordinary sight. The Heritage Car Club provided a grand entrance, chauffeuring many of the attendees to the event in classic vintage cars, adding a touch of old-world glamour to the occasion. Excitement filled the air as guests stepped onto the red carpet, ready for an evening of fun and festivities. Inside, the ballroom was transformed into an elegant wonderland, complete with dazzling decorations, beautiful lighting, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The music set the tone for the night, as 76 participants took to the dance floor, moving to the rhythm of laughter and celebration. From the first song to the last, the room was alive with energy, proving that this was more than just an event—it was an experience that would be cherished for years to come. One of the highlights of the evening was the inaugural crowning of the Ball’s King and Queen, a moment of pure joy that was met with cheers and applause from everyone in attendance. It was a heartwarming reminder that every individual deserves their moment to shine. Adding to the excitement were the incredible lucky door prizes, generously donated by local businesses who wholeheartedly supported the event. These contributions played a huge role in making the night even more special, showing just how much the Charters Towers community values and uplifts its members. As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that the first-ever TARDISS Disability Ball was a resounding success. It was a night filled with connection, inclusivity, and unfiltered happiness—proving that when a community comes together with a shared purpose, truly amazing things can happen. Thank you to everyone who made this incredible event possible. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the next Disability Ball will bring!

Understanding the NDIS: A Beginner’s Guide
Understanding the NDIS: A Beginner’s Guide

Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can feel overwhelming, especially for those new to the process. At TARDISS, we specialize in providing support for individuals with complex needs, ensuring they receive the tailored care and services they deserve. In this blog, we’ll break down the key aspects of the NDIS and how it can empower individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling lives. What is the NDIS? The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is an Australian government initiative designed to provide funding and support to individuals with disabilities. The goal is to improve their quality of life by offering access to services that promote independence, well-being, and community participation. Unlike previous funding models, the NDIS is centered around individual choice and control, allowing participants to select the supports that best meet their needs. Who is Eligible for the NDIS? To be eligible for the NDIS, an individual must meet the following criteria: Be under the age of 65 at the time of applying. Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa. Have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate in everyday activities. If you or a loved one meets these criteria, you can apply for NDIS funding through the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), which oversees the scheme. How TARDISS Supports Complex Cases At TARDISS, we specialize in assisting individuals with complex needs. We understand that navigating the NDIS can be particularly challenging for those requiring high levels of support, multiple therapies, or unique care arrangements. Our specialized services include: 1. Intensive Support Coordination For participants with complex needs, managing an NDIS plan can be overwhelming. We help structure care plans that integrate multiple supports for a holistic approach to well-being. 4. High-Intensity Daily Supports We assist individuals who require complex personal care, including 24/7 support, assistance with mobility, specialized equipment, and ongoing medical needs. Our goal is to help participants maintain independence while receiving the highest level of care. 5. Crisis and Emergency Support Life can be unpredictable, and for individuals with complex needs, immediate support is sometimes required. We provide rapid response services to ensure participants receive urgent care when needed, whether due to medical emergencies, caregiver disruptions, or other unforeseen circumstances. The Importance of Choosing the Right Provider Selecting the right NDIS provider is crucial, particularly for individuals with complex needs. A provider should offer not only expertise and experience but also a commitment to person-centered care.
